About the Excerpts

Excerpts are published daily and are designed for the intermediate and advanced pianist. The excerpt will include the piece name and composer.

You will be able to view historical sight reading excerpts for extra practice or review.

In addition to lesser known composers, some renowned composers you may encounter are: Rameau, Scarlatti, Bach, Couperin, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Clementi, Haydn, Alkan, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Barber, and Bartok.

The below image is an example of a sight reading excerpt. From Grieg’s Lyric Pieces, op. 71 no. 7, this excerpt is average in difficulty and length compared to others on the website. If you find the excerpt intimidating, note that sight reading is a skill that improves exponentially after consistent practice. The green stars depict the recommended starting and ending points for the exercise.
